Martin Poetzinger - he was held up as an example when I was a kid. No doubt with his German tinged accent,
"Zis von zing I do - seek first ze Kingdom."
Can't help thinking that if he were in a cong today he would be a consuming fire
is there any transparency in how many hours on the ministry the governing body members do on the ministry?
by this i mean the physical act of going door to door in their area.
i guess it is plausible that they would count overseas trips and working on publications as part of their ministry, but this is not what they encourage from the jw on the street.. is it possible for a gb member to be reproved or otherwise for not going out in service?

the april 2019 study edition page 20 has an article on resisting wicked spirits.
it says "magic refers to practices associated with the occult, or the supernatural.
it can include curses and the casting or breaking of spells.

Thanks for that story about American Football. This sort of thing goes on all the time, and young naive people are particularly vulnerable, as you know. In fact something like that happened to me when I was a kid growing up in the UK.
For most of the 20th century, American Foorball was virtually unknown over here, being seen as another example of those 'crazy Americans'. You might get some brief highlights of the Superbowl on a sports programme, but the rules were never explained and so you literally had no idea what was going on. To a young sports obsessed kid like me it seemed unfathomable.
That all began to change in 1982. Suddenly, the UK had a new TV channel, Channel 4 (4 TV stations- wow!).
One of the programmes on their schedule was a new weekly NFL highlights show, with the rules properly explained and ex players as occasional guests. Now we could begin to understand all that was going on. And I was quickly hooked. American Football became another sport to talk about at the KH.
But there was a dark cloud looming on the horizon. Our congregation had a Gilead graduate and his wife parachuted in, and this elder from Kansas clearly had an issue with American Football. He took me to one side on a few occasions telling me that it was wrong to watch the sport because it was so violent and that the brothers had been warned not to watch it.
When you're 10 years old, you ain't gonna argue with a Gilead graduate. So I had to carry on watching the NFL for a long time with a sense of secret shame.
It makes me sad when I look back that elders with authority can force their personal views on young and vulnerable ones in the congregation.
it felt so good to read a card from my youngest son today.
it was a funny card about duct tape and cussing.
it was a day of joy for me being it was my first fathers day card from my son since he and his family left the cult.
I may be wrong here, but it was my understanding that there is nothing pagan in origin about Father's Day. It's a relatively modern invention which was designed to counterbalance Mother's Day. And no doubt to make more money for retailers.
So, in theory you should be able to mark Father's Day even if you're PIMO or PIMI.

Don't want to get too off topic, but wasn't there a big rumpus over chess some years back?
It was definitely perceived as a bit dodgy for a time thanks to an article in the Awake which highlighted its origins as a game of strategy and war. I'm sure that some felt forced to destroy their hand carved chess sets.
now, jw's and children if you don't do what jehovah (organisation) says, this is what will happen to you..... did anybody call 'child services'?
š¤š.
.
I got beaten regularly both at home and at the meetings, as did many other kids. It was the way it was, unfortunately.
I thought I had dealt with the past and moved on, but when my own children came along so did a lot of repressed memories. Still dealing with those.
we have long queried why so-called things of pagan or religious origin like christmas or easter are banned by the wts but the use of wedding rings were not.. i was talking about this with a friend who follows a wiccan path of belief and he has sent me the following information from one of his magic magazines.. quote: .
" why do we wear our wedding ring on our āring fingerā ?
thus, to properly activate the ring finger we need to wear a golden ring on it.
Add the classic board game Snakes and Ladders to the formerly pagan but now acceptable list.
I am too lazy and beerily hazy to provide links, but look it up. It is thoroughly rooted in ancient Indian and Hindu philosophy. Karma, and all that.
I hereby declare that any JW found playing Snakes and Ladders shall be liable to the ultimate sanction. And don't think that Ludo gets you off the hook either.
exampler.
like in christ is ours.
add this to liberry pronounciation and aks.
One speaker, trying to go all Greek on us, referred to Vine's Suppository of New Testament Words.
He meant to say expository, of course.
having learned more actual christian beliefs since awaking from the org, looking back we had such strange and unhealthy obsession with demons compared to any other denomination that i know of.
i recently remembered this article from when i was a kid.
https://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/101986604?q=talk+to+the+demons&p=par#h=23.
I recall a brother saying to me that Chris De Burgh was demonized, because he was listening to him in his room one night and he felt the bed shake and his legs being pulled from under him.
Some months down the line, it turned out that it wasn't the demons but the family dog sleeping under the bed that caused the experience.
hello all, first post so a whistle stop of who i am first!.
āunbelieving husbandā here married to pimi wife living in uk.
anyway on with the post.... i attend the kh this weekend with pimi wife, iāve been a handful of times before.
I remember being at a Pioneer meeting the day before a circuit assembly, around 1997. The KH had cordless microphones, and during a dramatic pause in one of the speakers talks, 'Baby Love' by The Supremes came wafting over the sound system.
Best part of the program!
1.just been listening to this lady's innovtive tool as music instrument.
incredible story too.. https://youtu.be/_nlmm9kcbks.
2.listening to this gives me so much peace and relaxes me .
Been listening to a lot of Miranda Lambert today. I'm not a big Country fan, but there's something about her style and her often witty lyrics that keeps me coming back.
She's also in a side project called the Pistol Annies who are definitely worth checking out.
